Tesla has canceled the production of the most expensive version of the Model S Plaid Plus, according to a tweet from CEO Elon Musk, and Tesla has been acquiring the Model S Plaid since 2019. Edited according to what was reported by the verege.
He had previously tweeted that Plaid can go from zero to 60 mph in less than two seconds.
The Plaid Plus was also supposed to have a range of more than 520 miles, but its specifications on Teslas website last Sunday were broken although the site still said “Plaid Plus is available in mid-2022.”
The Plaid Model S debuted at the Laguna Seca racetrack in 2019, cutting the track in 1 minute 36 seconds. Tesla later showed off the Plaid S as part of its Battery Day show in September.
While it’s possible that Musk was joking on Twitter about canceling Plaid Plus (perhaps to boost confidence in the regular Plaid model?), it seems unlikely, given that he’s already tangled with the Securities and Exchange Commission due to previous tweets about Teslas business.
