Google has launched a new feature called Paced Walking that will help you achieve your best walking goals for maximum health benefits with an audio cadence to go along with it. This speed has similar health benefits to riding a bike.
“Plus, if you start walking faster, your natural pace will increase faster over time,” said Kapil Parakh, Chief Medical Officer at Google Fit. Once you start accelerating with brisk walking, you will earn more Heart Points in Google Fit. For every minute you walk at a pace of more than 100 steps per minute, you will earn 1 Heart Point.
This will help you get recommendations from the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization (WHO) of at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, and according to Rob Harley, research scientist at Google Fit, the idea is simple.
“Put some headphones in during the brisk walking session and we’ll play a nice background pulsing soundtrack to go along with it,” he said in a statement.
He added, “You can use the app to change the speed of the cadence and vary the intensity of your walking. The tempo plays on top of other sounds, so you can still play music or audio broadcasts while you walk.” The brisk walking feature is available on most Android phones globally.
