The Minister of Transport, Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, revealed, a few days ago, the completion of the development work and raising the efficiency of the ring road around Greater Cairo, to become 7 lanes in each direction, except for the Munib Bridge, which will become 8 lanes in each direction. current bridge.
The Minister stressed that after the completion of the development of the ring road, it will be prohibited or prevented from parking microbuses on top of the road to achieve traffic flow on it.
The minister stated that, as part of the works currently being implemented for the comprehensive development of the road, the construction of a lane for BRT bus lanes and stations, those that will run on the ring road, was taken into account, so we present to you information about the bus, according to the Mercedes-Benz website, which produces This type of bus.
First, what are the Brt buses?
The secret of the success of the Brt rapid transport system lies in its ability to adapt to the special circumstances of each city, as it operates in cities of different nature in different continents of the world. Among the cities that adopt this system are Istanbul, Mexico City, Strasbourg and Nantes.
What are the advantages of the BRT bus?
These buses can provide an attractive and effective service to the public, and they are considered an economical way compared to other means that work to transport passengers within large cities such as Cairo.
The lanes designated for the movement of these buses increase their movement at the required speed through crowded cities that suffer from traffic jams.
This system is characterized as an intelligent, environmentally friendly transportation system. This system relies on technologies that greatly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and the large capacity of those buses will reduce dependence on personal cars, which in turn increases those emissions. In addition to providing the means for wasted time in crowded roads, with allocating traffic lanes and fixed stations, reducing frequent stops and wasting time.
Buses used in rapid transit systems are subject to unified standards, in terms of driving system, size and floor height of the bus, as well as being designed to suit the nature of their mission.
What about the signaling system and stations?
The rapid transit system operates according to a switching signal system to adjust access to high speed, through the latest intelligent transportation systems “ITS” (Intelligent Transportation Systems), which regulates the priority of buses at traffic lights, allowing them to cross intersections safely and quickly at the same time. .
The design of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus stops allows smooth entry into the vehicle, allowing for rapid boarding and exit, as well as easy access for passengers with special needs to comfortably seat.
The buses are located exactly in specific places according to the curbstones of the station, which facilitates the process of entering the buses without the need to make additional efforts to go up and down the bus stairs.
How do I get tickets for Brt buses?
It is assumed that bus tickets are available outside the bus with a pre-booking system at the stations, to reduce the time spent at the stations and thus provide more efficient travel times, and the rapid transit system is characterized by great flexibility in terms of selecting and checking tickets.
It is noteworthy that the engineer team “Al-Wazir”, the Minister of Transport, witnessed in the first week of last May the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Transport represented by the Internal and International Land Transport Regulatory Agency and the BRT RR Bus Rapid Transit Ring Alliance.
The global alliance consists of the leadership of the French company Transdev and its partners from the Egyptian national companies represented in Orascom, Mowasalat Egypt and the transportation company “MCV”.
The agreement comes within the framework of “expanding the establishment of modern transportation networks, and maximizing the mass transportation system in Egypt.” The minister said: For the first time in the means of transportation in Egypt, BRT buses will be operated, which are fast buses that run on isolated tracks with a large capacity.
The Egyptian Minister of Transport explained that this project will be a starting point for this type of transportation in Egypt, especially in Cairo and Alexandria, which are characterized by dense populations.
The minister called for the speedy completion of these studies to start implementing this important project, which is a major leap in the means of transportation, and the provision of transportation services in line with the civilized renaissance witnessed by Cairos traffic hubs, according to his words.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Transport had announced that it would start operating the BRT bus as of next year, after completing the information and infrastructure infrastructure, which includes allocating lanes, stations and surveillance cameras in preparation for their entry into service. On the Ring Road and between Adly Mansour Metro and Cairo Airport, it will also run without frequent stops, but in spaced stations, with two lanes allocated for BRT buses and the establishment of stations for them.
The two lanes designated for buses will be inside the ring road and not on the outskirts. The new bus lanes will also be dedicated to ambulances and fire trucks. BRT buses operate on electric power and do not depend on traditional fuel, and are capable of transporting more than 4,000 passengers per hour, while the load of buses can accommodate BRT bus for about 170 passengers for a double bus.
The buses will be subject to monitoring means to prevent any cars from passing in their lanes, as well as communication with control rooms to follow up on the buses, so they can communicate with smart signals to give them the advantage of traffic on the roads.
