Afghanistan.. Rockets fall near the presidential palace during Eid al-Adha prayers

According to news coming from Afghanistan, on Tuesday, rockets fell near the Afghan presidential palace in Kabul during the Eid al-Adha prayer.

A live television broadcast showed rockets falling near the presidential palace in the capital during Eid prayers. There were no reports of casualties yet.

Television footage showed that President Ashraf Ghani continued to pray despite several explosions.

The incident came before President Ashraf Ghani’s speech on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, according to media and witnesses. Minutes after the attack, Ghani began delivering his speech in the presence of a number of senior officials.

The sound of missiles fired at about eight in the morning (03:30 GMT) was heard throughout the security-fortified Green Zone, which includes the Presidential Palace, as well as a number of embassies, including the American ones.

“Today the enemies of Afghanistan launched missile attacks in various parts of the city of Kabul,” Interior Ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanekzai said.

He added, “All the missiles hit three different parts (of the capital). Based on our initial information, there were no casualties. Our team is conducting investigations.”

Al-Qasr missiles have previously been targeted several times, the last of which was in December.

The operation coincides with a massive Taliban offensive across the country as foreign forces push ahead with their withdrawal, which is scheduled to be completed by August 31.
