Endless tears… dead among the covers in Dhi Qar

Long, bitter hours witnessed by Dhi Qar, which afflicted all the last cities with its tragedy, after a fire broke out in one of its hospitals, leaving more than 64 dead.

However, the tragedy did not stop here, it spread across Social media In particular, Twitter, video clips conveying the horror of the incident.

The clips showed citizens wrapping charred bodies, whose owners died, burned or suffocated, with bed covers, “thick blankets”, after the medical materials for wrapping the dead were lost.

Perhaps those scenes were not the only ones, only other videos showed people crying and screaming while the fire engulfed their loved ones in front of their eyes without being able to move a thing.

The information also reported that there were families who lost two or three of their members in the fire that ate Al Hussein Hospital to isolate Corona patients in the center of the governorate.

It is worth noting that the Iraqi Ministry of Health had announced this morning that the number of victims had risen to more than 114 during the past hours, explaining that among the dead, dozens had died of suffocation, while the number of wounded had reached 50.

A security source revealed to local media that the Director General of Civil Defense, Major General Kazem Bohan, went to Nasiriyah after the big fire, confirming that 3 oxygen cylinders exploded as a result of the fire.

Faced with this tragedy, dozens of citizens and the families of the victims of the fire demonstrated, at night, to protest the incident. The demonstrators also chanted slogans denouncing political parties, and held them responsible for the conditions in the governorate.

It is noteworthy that the fire that broke out on Monday evening, in a center for isolating people with corona, in a hospital in the center of Nasiriyah, located 300 km south of Baghdad, has caused widespread anger in the country, especially as it came a few months after another similar event that occurred in one of the capital’s hospitals in Last April, more than 80 people were killed.

3 days of mourning

In turn, Dhi Qar Governorate decided, on Tuesday, to mourn and suspend work for three days after the hospital fire on Monday.

In a statement, it said that the governor of Dhi Qar, Ahmed Ghani al-Khafaji, issued a number of urgent decisions regarding what happened on Monday evening of a tragic accident that caused casualties, including a declaration of mourning and an investigation.

In addition, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, announced that Parliament will shift today’s regular session to examine options regarding the tragedy of Imam Hussein Teaching Hospital in Dhi Qar.

He also considered in his tweet on Twitter that it was time to put an end to the catastrophic failure, as he put it.
