Chiesa moved to Juventus last summer from Fiorentina, on loan for two seasons.
“When he arrived at Juventus, I didn’t think that he was a good enough player, in all honesty,” Buffon told the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
He added, “In the Euro, he was an incredible player, in the final against England he did not stop.”
“After one season at Juventus with Chiesa, he no longer surprised me, but it was not very clear that he would be able to perform at a high level like the European Championships.”
“If you can deliver that performance at a high competitive level, then you are an outstanding player.”
Chiesa participated in the coronation of the Italian national team at Euro 2020 after winning the final match against England on penalties.
Several reports indicated that the player had received some great offers from clubs such as Bayern Munich and Chelsea, but the Juventus management refused to discuss the offers in the first place.
Chiesa participated in 46 matches with Juventus last season, during which he scored 15 goals and assisted 11 others.
