Mohamed Khalil El-Jendoubi admitted that he lost his lead to lose the 58kg taekwondo final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Jendoubi lost to Italian Vito Della Quella, to win the first silver medal for Arabs in the 2020 session

After the match, the Tunisian told beIN Sports: “The gold was lost to me.”

He continued, “After Buenos Aires (2018 Youth Olympics, in which he won bronze), I adapted more than the big players and set a goal in front of me, which is to win an Olympic medal.”

In response to his comparison to Bruno Fernandes, a player for Manchester United football club, he commented, “Those close to me tell me that I look like Mesut Ozil (Fenerbahce player).”

Jendoubi’s medal was Tunisias second taekwondo Olympic medal after Oussama Oueslati won bronze in the 80kg category in 2016.

It is the 14th medal in total in the history of Tunisias participation in the Olympic Games.
