Last July, Al-Arabiya channel hosted the Egyptian preacher Amr Khaled, on the “Mubasher Question” program, in an interview that can be described as the guest saying everything and not saying anything at the same time!
Perhaps the most important key phrase in the hadeeth of the Egyptian preacher is his saying at the end of the dialogue, “I do not want to upset anyone,” and in that he would like to stay in the “between the two” area; That is, that “gray” space in which he does not have a specific and clear opinion!
Amr Khaled, famous for his advocacy speech, which focused at one point on a certain class of society, especially families with economic status or social influence, he only wants to be in the “comfortable” area, in which he relaxes, achieves more influence and promotes his speech and the “charity” project Who spoke about something of it to the journalist Khaled Madkhali.
When Madkhali asked Amr Khaled about the Al-Azhar institution and the mistakes he made, he did not want to use the word “mistakes,” preferring to describe them as “challenges.” Although in the same interview, he admitted that there were mistakes on the part of the institution.
Choosing the word “challenges”, preacher Amr Khaled avoided clashing with the Al-Azhar institution, which he does not want to fall into, because of his knowledge of Al-Azhar’s popularity and influence and the possibility of negative repercussions on its activities and publicity.
Here, favoritism will turn into a position that does not reflect appreciation and belief in the institution, as much as it is a pragmatic behavior through which it seeks to compliment a party, and therefore, any criticism directed at it will be ineffective, lacking credibility, and not having the ability to develop, because from its beginnings it sets red lines that he does not want to cross. .
The power of the masses!
He owns Dr. Amr Khaled has multiple accounts on social networks. He has about 11 million followers on the Twitter platform, 31 million followers on his Facebook page, 4.1 million followers on Instagram, where he published 12,558 articles, as well as 1.34 million subscribers to his own channel on the YouTube platform. 192,331,007 views.
The great popularity of Dr. Khaled, who had an early presence on his website and social networks, has developed in performance in terms of his interest in the quality of the materials, the way they are produced, and the extent to which they fit the taste of the followers, and contain visual and audio effects, in order to appear in a form that keeps pace with everything new and presents him as a religious figure Keeping up with the media scene in which the new generation lives, and therefore a preacher who differs from the rest of the preachers who do not have this skill at work!
The strategy that Amr Khaled worked on in his advocacy work, extended outside Egypt, and made his presence more influential, although he was subjected to several waves between ups and downs, but there are those who still believe in his speech and see him as a role model.
The creation of the “example” as much as it affects the recipient affects at the same time the sender himself, and makes him under the authority of the “masses” that follow him and he follows them!
The million numbers that Amr Khaled owns on social media are heavy restrictions, which make him more cautious, because the influence of the “overwhelming presence” is afraid of losing, eroding or regressing. Therefore, when he spoke on the “Direct Question” program about the renewal of religious discourse, he answered with a loose talk about generalities, making it within the general religious environment without leaving it, or turning into a disobedient son who turned against it, presenting ideas suitable to address several levels of recipients and satisfy them in At the same time, those who seek “modernization” find their goal in it, and the moderate conservatives are not disturbed by it, and the religious establishment does not see it as a departure from its constants.
Hence, the Egyptian preacher Amr Khaled would like not to pay costs for his ideas or positions in public affairs. Therefore, he refused to go into “politics” or express his current views on thorny issues such as: the Muslim Brotherhood and the Arab Spring. He merely said, “I made mistakes and regretted them and apologized,” or to say, “We went through a tsunami that was not easy, thank God, that our Lord protected Egypt,” or his assertion that “it has nothing to do with the Muslim Brotherhood.”
These answers will satisfy many parties, especially those spread in the non-politicized classes, and avoid paying any price.
Although Amr Khaled presents himself as a “prayer” and knows that any public figure carries a message of a religious nature, it will be very natural to pay a price for her call and positions, because the Prophet’s biography and the history of Islam more than 1400 years ago, is full of stories and news about the suffering and struggles that It is borne by those who address the call and work in public affairs!
This “intellectual fluidity” in Amr Khaled’s speech clearly indicates the inability of preachers to make serious and real revisions, and their weak capabilities to present a mature discourse that argues ideas and refutes the sick from them with scientific and literary courage.
