Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman, expressed his gratitude for Lionel Messi’s contribution to the Catalan club, stressing that it is difficult to understand that the Argentine star will not play again in “Barca”.
Koeman said in comments reported by the Spanish newspaper AS: “It is difficult to understand that he (Messi) will not play again in Barcelona. Thank you for everything you did for the club, Leo. I enjoyed a lot in the season we worked together.”
Koeman, who responded to Messi’s departure about 48 hours after the official announcement of his departure, revealed that he was impressed by “Messi’s ethics and desire to win.”
Addressing Messi, he added: “This makes you the best player in the world. I wish you and your family all the best.”
Messi is scheduled to hold a press conference, today, Sunday, at the Camp Nou stadium, the stronghold of Barcelona.
Messi has the right to join any team he chooses during the current summer transfer period, as he is not linked to any contract with Barcelona after the end of his previous contract on June 30.
Despite reports that Messi’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain was settled, the Catalan newspaper “Sport” insisted that “at the present time, there is no offer for Messi from any club”, including Paris Saint-Germain.
Last Thursday, Barcelona announced the sudden departure of Messi from the Catalan team, noting that “economic and structural obstacles” prevented the Argentine star from remaining in the arms of “Barca”.
