Belarusian runner Kristina Tymanovskaya has refused to be deported to her country by those responsible for the Belarus delegation participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The officials of the Belarusian mission in Tokyo had decided to deport runner Kristina Timanovskaya to the country after she made statements attacking them. (full story here)
The BBC reported that Christina refused to be deported and did not leave Tokyo airport for Belarus.
To continue with the security and police at Tokyo airport, to leave the flight from Japan to Belarus without Christina boarding the plane.
“Christina told us that she is now safe and is now with the Japanese police,” the IOC wrote on Twitter.
On the other hand, Reuters news agency reported, quoting the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Foundation, that Kristina intends to seek political asylum in Germany or Austria for fear of arrest upon her return to Belarus.
