Books – Muhammad Mustafa:
Sayed Abdel Hafeez, Al-Ahly’s football director, enumerated the reasons for the red team’s loss of the league championship last season in favor of its rival, Zamalek.
In statements to the “On My Responsibility” program on Sada Al-Balad channel, Abdel Hafeez said that the club was more interested in the African Champions League than in the league, and the occurrence of some technical errors, in addition to the great pressure that the team was subjected to throughout the season.
Abdel Hafeez added: “It is impossible to accept a repetition of what happened last season by playing in the same compact form. We played 16 matches every 48 hours.”
And Al-Ahly’s football director continued: “We played 7 tournaments and lost only one. We are saddened by the loss of the league, but there are many reasons, some of which we bear the responsibility.”
Abdel Hafeez talked about the refereeing mistakes that led to the team losing points, most notably Al-Ahly’s goal against the army, which was not counted due to the fact that the ball did not cross the goal line.
And he added, “I do not doubt the responsibility of any referee. The Egyptian referees are among the best African referees. I saw Jihad Greisha at TP Mazembe Stadium, how he managed the match there with the utmost efficiency, despite the difficult atmosphere of the stadium.”
