Billionaire Bill Gates expressed concern about the world’s lack of preparation for possible new epidemics, stressing that the only solution is to develop a vaccine within 100 days and produce it in sufficient volume within the next 100 days.
Gates said in an interview with the “Wall Street Journal”: “I am a little concerned because the interest in preparedness to confront epidemics is less than I expected.”
He added, “The only real solution to this issue is to have factories capable of producing a sufficient amount of vaccines within 100 days… and this is achievable.”
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently called on countries to invest more in health care systems, including in the production of vaccines.
The Foundation noted with concern the inequality in the distribution of anti-Coronavirus vaccines between rich and poor countries around the world, as 49 million doses of vaccines were administered in Africa during the first half of the year, compared to 43 million doses in California alone.
