Amy Jean has been named “Ocean Photographer of the Year” for her photograph of a green sea turtle surrounded by fish in the Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia.
The competition, organized by Oceanographic magazine, aims to highlight the beauty of the ocean and the dangers it faces.
Henley Spires won second place for the image of a “gannet”, a seabird near the Shetland Islands in Scotland.
And Matty Smith came in third place with a photo of a turtle emerging from an egg and heading into the sea for the first time.
The 50 Fat Women Award, a new category to encourage promising women in the ocean photography category, was won by Renee Capozola, a photographer and biology teacher from Los Angeles, for her work that featured a shark in a sunset scene in French Polynesia.
The Young Photographer Award went to Hana Lolio for this shot of a sea queen turtle hatching, under a sky full of hungry birds on Heron Island in Australia.
The exhibition continues on the shore of the River Thames in the British capital, London, until October 17, 2021.
