Glentoran goalkeeper Aaron McCary has caused an uproar on social media, after violently assaulting his colleague during their team’s match against Coleraine in the Irish Football League.
In the 80th minute, when the result indicated a two-goal lead for Glentoran, Coleraine managed to equalize, through Kathir Friel, and with it an incident that is not often repeated in the world of football.
After receiving a net for the goal, the giant goalkeeper McCary lost his temper and appeared angry, heading towards his colleague Bobby Burns, who made a mistake at the beginning of the equalizing goal, and pushed him hard to fall to the ground and beat him, and tried to pull him from his shirt before the Glentoran players intervened and separated them.
Then the referee intervened, to show the red card to goalkeeper Makari, and his team completed the remaining ten minutes with ten players and came out with a tie point.
Glentoran coach Mick McDermott tried to play down the incident, and said McCurry was quick to apologize for his behavior, which caused an uproar on social media.
It is noteworthy that McCurry, aged 29, had a professional experience in the English Premier League with Wolverhampton, while Burns, 22, spent one season in the Australian League with Newcastle Jets.
