Three Italian dancers were killed in a traffic accident during a trip in the desert near the Saudi capital, Riyadh, ANSA news agency reported.
The car in which Italian Antonio Cagianelli, 33, from Barletta Andrea Trani, 32-year-old Giampero Giari, 32, from Rome, and Nicolas Esposito, 28, from Agrigentino, Sicily, collided with a second car on a desert road. last Friday.
The three dancers were in Saudi Arabia with a troupe of 10 dancers, all Italians, on a tour to open a new theater, according to the Italian “Ansa”.
On the day off, they decided to go for a walk to discover the desert of Riyadh with local guides.
Upon their return from the desert picnic, the two cars they were traveling in crashed from the top of Mount Fahren, known as “the summit of the end of the world” in northwest Riyadh.
And the summit of Fahren, the highest mountain of Tuwaiq, 35 kilometers from Riyadh, is known as the “end of the world”, because it provides a stunning view of a group of valleys, similar to the famous view in the “Grand Canyon” in the state of Arizona, USA.
The three Italian dancers and the driver of one of the cars died, while their bodies were retrieved by helicopter.
Following the tragic accident, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the families of the deceased, who arrived in Saudi Arabia yesterday, to identify the bodies that should be returned to Italy in the coming days.
The Saudi Civil Defense issued a statement about the accident, after receiving a report that a vehicle fell from a very rugged mountain slope west of Riyadh, with 9 people traveling in it.
According to the Saudi newspaper, “Al-Marsad”, the Saudi civil defense teams, security aviation and supporting authorities immediately moved to the site of the accident, and 5 injured people were rescued and transferred by security aviation to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care, while the bodies of 4 dead people (the three dancers and the driver) were recovered.
