Health reveals the details of the second phase of the initiative for early detection of genetic diseases in children


Dr. Khaled Mujahid, a spokesman for the Ministry of the health And the population that the initiative of the President of the Republic to detect genetic diseases in newborns and treat them free of charge, under the slogan “100 million health”, aims to reach a healthy generation free of causes of disability.

Dr. Khaled Mujahid, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Awareness and Community Outreach and the official spokesperson for the ministry, explained that the initiative aims to detect 19 genetic diseases in newborns, pointing out that the first phase of the initiative includes conducting a medical survey of newborns in nurseries in all hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population.

He added that the second phase of the initiative is scheduled to include conducting a medical survey of newborns in all university hospitals, private sector hospitals and health units at the level of the Republic, noting that the national program for newborn survey has been developed, with the addition of 17 diseases, bringing the number of diseases that are treated. The survey of newborns has 19 diseases instead of just two.

It is worth noting that the 19 genetic diseases are (congenital hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, familial anaemia, cystic fibrosis, hereditary hyperlipidemia, phenylketonuria, tetrahydrobutyrin deficiency, organic acidity, elevated isovaleric acid in the blood, elevation of propionic acid / methyl Maloney, maple urine disease, high blood tyrosine – type I – high blood galactose, high urine homocysteine, high blood arginine, high blood citrulline, carbamoyl transporter ornithine deficiency, fatty acid oxidation, biotinidase deficiency
