Large numbers of tourists flocked to the temple of “Abu Simbel” to watch the moment the sun perpendicular to the face of the statue of Pharaoh Ramses II.
The Seventh Day newspaper reported that 1,270 foreign, Egyptian and Arab visitors came to witness the annual phenomenon, in addition to the participation of “Dr. Khaled El-Anany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, a number of ambassadors of foreign countries, officials and leaders of Aswan Governorate.”
During the entry of visitors and tourists, strict preventive measures were followed to protect against the spread of Corona infection, and “emphasis was placed on wearing a muzzle and observing the distance between visitors, in addition to strict security measures at the entrances and exits of the temple.”
This archaeological area had completed preparations for “the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the face of King Ramses II in the Holy of Holies inside his great temple in Abu Simbel.”
The newspaper described this ancient ritual as a unique astronomical pharaonic phenomenon that “recurs twice a year, October 22 and February 22,” noting that “the temple was provided with 64 surveillance cameras to secure the temple, monitor the movement of visitors and provide all facilities for guests, with golf cars to transport tourists inside the temple. And watch the phenomenon, with electronic payment gates.”
