The draw for the league season (2021-2022) resulted in an early summit between Al-Ahly and Zamalek in the third week of the Egyptian WE League competition, in a repeated scenario for the third consecutive season.
In the last two seasons, the Competitions Committee decided that the league draw would be held normally without the summit being played in the last round of the local competition, so that the Al-Ahly and Zamalek match would be held in the fourth round.
In the 2019-20 season, the top match was supposed to take place in the fourth round, but the Competition Committee decided to postpone the match to be held in February.
Zamalek refused to attend the match due to the pressure of the matches on the team after playing the two African Super matches against Esperance in Qatar and then the Egyptian Super against Al-Ahly in the Emirates.
This crisis became known as the “bus incident” after the White Club claimed the team’s bus had broken down while on its way to the match stadium at Cairo Stadium.
The Competitions Committee reacted to this crisis, so that the match was calculated for Al-Ahly by winning (2-0), with three points deducted from the team’s balance.
And last season, the Football Association also decided to postpone the summit meeting, which comes from the fourth week to take place last April and ended in favor of Al-Ahly with a score of 1-2.
The Football Association did not announce at the time the reasons for the postponement, as the Competitions Committee decided to hold the Al-Ahly match against the Alexandrian Federation, while Zamalek played against Smouha.
Summit date and postponement are prohibited:
Amer Hussein, a member of the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association, revealed the date of the summit between Al-Ahly and Zamalek, indicating that the match will be held on time without delay this time.
The former head of the Competitions Committee said in a radio statement, yesterday, Wednesday, that the summit will take place on the 4th or 5th of November.
Hussein indicated, during his statements, that the date of the summit will be set a few days before the upcoming Egyptian national team camp, in the context of preparations for the matches of Angola and Gabon in the World Cup qualifiers.
Ahmed Mujahid, head of the tripartite committee that manages Egyptian football affairs, had announced earlier that Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Egyptian national team, wanted to play the first three rounds of the Egyptian We League competition so that he could choose the list before the November camp.
For his part, Ahmed Diab, head of the Professional League, confirmed that no match will be postponed during this season, after the league clubs decided to play the competition as normal as previous seasons.
Diab had put a solution in front of the clubs in light of the pressure of the matches this season, which is to play the league either in the two groups system or from one role, but the clubs adhered to the normal system without change.
