Matteo Renzi, the former Italian prime minister and leader of the “Live Italy” party, called on Poland, Hungary and Slovenia to respect the values of the European Union, and not see it as a mere ATM for them.

During the debate on Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s briefing to the Senate on the European Council meeting scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Brussels, Renzi said: “I will make my Polish, Hungarian and Slovenian colleagues understand something very simple: it is OK to complain about the European Union, but if they feel uncomfortable with it, let them give up.” About the European money with which they saved their shaky economies.

He pointed out that the feeling of being deceived by the leaders of countries such as Poland, Hungary or Slovenia raises suspicion, adding: “Let’s face it, if they want money from Europe, let them respect European values, because the European Union is not just an ATM for them.”
