The Renaissance Dam.. Sharaki excludes Ethiopia from starting concrete works for the third filling and explains the reason

Dr. Abbas Sharaki, professor of geology and water resources at Cairo University, ruled out that Ethiopia has started the construction of the third wall in preparation for the start of the third filling of the Renaissance Dam reservoir. He said, during a telephone interview with the “Al-Hekaya” program on the “MBC Egypt” screen, on Friday evening, that the start of concrete laying for the third mil will not be before next February, explaining that it requires starting to pump water through the two turbines that were built, and then generating electricity.

He added that the Ethiopian side has hope to operate the two turbines during the month of October, but he clarified that water is overflowing from the top of the dam and therefore no works can be established.

Sharaki pointed out that Ethiopia has so far stored eight billion cubic meters, and in order to start producing electricity, it will need to pass three billion cubic meters.

A source in the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had said that Ethiopia had begun to raise the middle passage of the Renaissance Dam, and to put concrete walls, in preparation for the third filling of the dam.

The source confirmed that his country is waiting for the invitation of the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, who chairs the African Union, to resume negotiations, and pointed out that Sudan handed over to the Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs his observations on the negotiation methodology in the Renaissance Dam crisis.
