The Belgian national team maintained the top spot in the world ranking issued by the International Football Association (FIFA) today, Friday, with the Brazilian and French teams approaching it.
The Belgian team led by 2.1 points from the Brazilian team after the last qualifying round, in which the first three teams qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
On the other hand, the Italian national team was forced to enter the European play-off, and fell two places from fourth to sixth. The Mexican team also dropped five places from the ninth to the fourteenth, while the Dutch team entered the top ten by occupying the tenth place, outperforming the German team.
The Canadian team has maintained its progress, as it currently occupies the 40th place, after rising from the 71st place since the beginning of the world, and it is also in a good position towards advancing to the World Cup finals.
On the other hand, the Senegalese team maintained the top spot in the rankings of African teams, after it ranked 20th in the world, followed by Morocco (28th in the world), Tunisia (29th in the world), Algeria (32nd in the world), Nigeria (36th in the world) and Egypt (45th in the world).
In the continent of Asia, the Iranian team maintained the top spot in the continent after it ranked 21st in the world, followed by Japan (26th in the world), South Korea (33th in the world), Australia (35th in the world) and Saudi Arabia (48th in the world).
The world rankings, which will be issued on the first of next April, will be related to the draw for the group stage of the World Cup, as sources told the German News Agency (dpa) that the seven best ranked teams will join Qatar, the organizing country, at the top of the eight groups.
