Lionel Messi, the French player of Paris Saint-Germain, expected the Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.
On Tuesday, the Argentine star won the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time in his history, beating Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich player, while Egyptian star Mohamed Salah ranked seventh.
Messi with the Golden Ball
Salah scored 32 goals for Liverpool in 2021, which is Messi’s number, however he failed to be on the podium, as the third place went to Jorginho, a Chelsea player, after the Italian won the Champions League and the European Championship.
Messi said after winning the award: Salah will have the opportunity in the coming years, both Salah and Lewandowski are at their best at the moment, and they will have more chances to win it.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp also expressed his surprise at the low ranking of his team’s star in the Ballon d’Or vote.
Salah scored 121 points, compared to 613 for Messi, and Jorginho, Ngolo Kante and Karim Benzema, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, led the Liverpool player in the list.
Club and Mohammad Salah
German coach Klopp commented in statements to the media, on Tuesday: I was surprised by Salah’s position in the award, but it is not up to me, I saw the vote somewhere.
He added in response to a journalist’s question: The journalists voted on that, it is your fault, then, if you think that it should be in a better arrangement, then you have to convince your colleagues, but I am 100% sure that the arrangement did not give Salah his right.
He continued: “The award can always be given to Lionel Messi for his wonderful career, but if it is not given to Lewandowski this time, it is difficult for him to get it again.”
At the same time, many Liverpool fans resorted to social media to respond to the arrangement of their Egyptian star at the Golden Ball Awards, as many expressed their surprise at Salah’s ranking of the year, and agreed that the arrangement did not respect Mohamed Salah.
