It turned out that a man in India who was declared dead after a traffic accident is still alive and breathing, but in critical condition, after spending a night in a cold room in a hospital, the hospital director told AFP on Sunday.
Srikesh Kumar, 45, was taken to a private clinic after being hit by a motorbike in Moradabad, east of New Delhi.
Upon arrival at the clinic, a doctor announced that Kumar was dead, and on Friday he was transferred to a public hospital for an autopsy.
The hospital’s medical director, Rajendra Kumar, told AFP on Sunday that “the emergency doctor examined him, and no trace of life was found, and therefore he was pronounced dead.”
The body was kept in a cold room until the family arrived six hours later.
“When a team of the police and his family came to start the administrative procedures for the autopsy, it turned out that he was still alive,” the hospital director added. The man is still in a coma.
The director of the hospital commented, saying that what happened was a “miracle.” The cause of the misdiagnosis is still under investigation.
