Patrushev said, in an interview with the newspaper “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” published today, Tuesday: “The discourse of Western media and high-ranking officials in the United States about Russias aggressive plans is baseless. The Russian Federation has never shown hostility towards any country, and in particular Ukraine, which It is inhabited by a people close to us in terms of blood, language and history.”

Patrushev stressed that “no unjustified transfers of Russian forces or unplanned exercises are taking place near the border with Ukraine.”

He continued, “At the time, Ukrainian officials, including the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Alexei Danilov, denied the authenticity of American newspaper reports about Russias dragging armed forces to the border. But later, apparently after receiving instructions in this regard, they adhered to a completely different position that contributes to the Kiev to increase its military spending.

He added that these allegations are used as a justification for “the escalation of tension in the east of the country (Ukraine), and the implementation of serial targeting in violation of the Minsk agreements on the territories controlled by the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, including by striking drones, artillery and other types of heavy weapons.”

Patrushev explained that “the United States and its allies, by inflaming the situation related to the alleged Russian threat, are creating a beneficial media atmosphere for them to strengthen the range of their military forces and increase reconnaissance activities, as well as the supply of modern weapons, ammunition and material resources to the Ukrainian forces and national formations.”

He pointed out that “Moscow informed Washington about this and the absence of any aggressive plans by Russia towards Ukraine.”

He continued: “Despite calls for the American side to stop disseminating misinformation, whether in the media or during communications with European partners, no changes have come. It is currently unclear what the purpose of disseminating this misinformation is, but it is possible that it aims to justify imposing additional sanctions against Russia.

Patrushev stressed: “As for the intensive military activities of the United States and its allies in the region, we will continue to closely monitor the movements of NATO and Ukraine forces near our borders.”
