It is noteworthy that Naftali Bennett, the Israeli Prime Minister, made a phone call yesterday, Thursday, the first of its kind, to Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president.

On Thursday evening, the Israel Broadcasting Corporation reported, Bennett thanked President Erdogan, regarding his personal intervention in the return of the Israeli couple who were arrested in Istanbul, on charges of espionage, last week.

The Hebrew channel reported on its website that Bennett thanked Erdogan after accusing the Israeli couple of photographing the residence of the Turkish president, while stressing that the Turkish authorities had released the couple, at dawn on Thursday.

The channel confirmed that that phone call had a positive impact on the two countries, as it conveyed, according to Turkish officials, the existence of possibilities for improving bilateral relations, including the return of ambassadors, noting that Turkey is concerned with improving relations, and Israel in return as well.

In the same context, Israeli President Isaac Herzog thanked his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after Ankara released an Israeli couple accused of spying.

This came during a phone call yesterday, Thursday. The effect of the return of the Israeli couple to Israel, expressing his thanks to Erdogan for his “personal intervention and assistance” in the release of the spouses, Natalie and Mordi Oknin.

The Israeli president expressed hope for warmer diplomatic relations with Turkey after more than a year of tensions between Turkey and Israel.

On November 11, a Turkish court ordered the arrest of the couple, on charges of espionage, for taking pictures of President Erdogan’s residence in Istanbul.
