Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his happiness at his team’s 3-1 victory over Villarreal, and praised its rising Moroccan striker Abdel Samad Zalzouli, who performed well in the match.
Xavi said after the match, which was held yesterday, Saturday, as part of the 15th round of the Spanish League, in comments reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”: “We suffered a lot in the second half and at the end of the first half… Villarreal is a strong competitor, and it cost us a lot to get out of the pressure.” .
He added, “We achieved three golden points, and Villarreal did not deserve to lose, it was a very close match, but it is a huge victory that gives us great morale, and the players gave everything.”
He continued: “I will not talk about referees, their work is a difficult task, and I am not here to judge their decisions, and unlike referees, there is video technology, and it is difficult to be a referee.”
And he added: “There are moments when the opponent controls the ball. We were under a lot of pressure, and they overpowered us in the second half, and we have to develop and play better and with more control.”
The Spanish coach continued: “The defensive team’s work was amazing, the young players performed very well, and Zalzoli is an important talent, and he is there to make the difference, and although he suffered defensively, he contributed strongly to the attack, and we are very happy with him.”
Zalzouli participated in the main match with Villarreal and was substituted in the 66th minute when “Barca” was ahead with a goal without a response.
Zalzouli is 19 years old, born and raised in the Moroccan city of Beni Mellal, before he emigrated with his family to Spain, to complete his education and refine his talent there.
He is an international player in the Moroccan national team for under 20 years, and plays in the center of the attack, and he joined Barcelona last August from Hercules of Spain, for two million euros, and signed a contract with the Catalan team that extends for three years, with the option to extend for two additional seasons.
