Hossam Al-Mandouh, a member of the Zamalek board of directors, confirmed that the club did not receive a response from the Football Association regarding the participation of Mahmoud Abdel Razek Shikabala, the captain of the team, in the top match against Al-Ahly.
Zamalek will face Al-Ahly team next Friday at Cairo Stadium in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Al-Mandouh said, in telephone statements to MBC Egypt: “There was an important session in the House of Representatives, and the file of Shikabalas punishment was discussed before the Minister of Youth and Sports.”
He added, “There is a clear article regarding the Football Association’s commitment to the decisions of the Settlement and Arbitration Center, which canceled the penalty for stopping Shikabala.”
He continued, “We contacted the Football Association to see the situation, but we did not find any official response, and so far there is no official letter regarding Shikabalas eligibility to play.”
The delegate concluded by saying: “The Minister of Sports and the President of the Olympic Committee confirmed that Shikabala has the right to play after the decision of the Settlement and Arbitration Center, and we are now waiting for the response of the Football Association to know Shikabalas final position.”
The Football Association had announced the suspension of Shikabala for 8 months for misconduct on the last day of the league last season, before the penalty was reduced to 8 matches, to then demand the Zamalek star to cancel the penalty based on the ruling of the Settlement and Arbitration Center.
It is noteworthy that Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, confirmed during the House of Representatives that the Football Association is obligated to implement the provisions of the Egyptian Sports Settlement and Arbitration Center, stressing that canceling the suspension of Shikabala is enforceable.
