US President Joe Biden confirmed that Ms. Sauli Umarov refused to be appointed to the US Treasury Department as Head of the Foreign Exchange Department, as she was born in the Soviet Union.
A statement about Biden posted on the White House website read: “Accepted Sauli Umarov’s request to withdraw her candidacy for the post of Head of the Foreign Exchange Control Department.”
According to Biden, “Ms. Umarov fulfilled the American dream by immigrating to the United States from the Soviet Union, and worked in the US Treasury Department during the presidency of George W. Bush.”
Biden noted, “Ms. Umarov has extensive experience in financial regulation.”
According to informed press sources, during the Senate hearings, Ms. Umarov was sharply criticized for her origins, when asked by Republican Senator John F. Kennedy on whether she should be called a “Professor or a Companion.”
