Billionaire and businessman, Elon Musk, announced that his technology company, “Neuralink”, hopes to start implanting chips inside human brains next year 2022.
This came during an interview broadcast live at the CEO Council summit in the American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal”, on Monday.
When Musk was asked about Neuralink’s plans for 2022, he replied: “The company is doing really well with monkeys, and we’re actually doing a lot of testing, and we’re just confirming that it’s very safe and reliable, and the chip can be removed from the brain safely.”
“We hope to apply this to our first humans over the next year, who will be people with severe spinal cord injuries, such as quadriplegia, and we are awaiting FDA approval.”
And he added, “The standards for the implantation of the chip at his company, Neuralink, are much higher than the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration.”
Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk in 2016, is developing a chip that is implanted in the brains of humans, with the purpose of simultaneously recording and stimulating brain activity, and the goal is to have medical applications such as treating serious spinal cord injuries and neurological disorders.
And through his account on “Twitter”, Elon Musk, today, Tuesday, reiterated what he announced during the CEO Council summit in the American newspaper, “The Wall Street Journal”, writing to his followers: “Progress will accelerate when we have devices in humans (it is difficult to have accurate conversations). with monkeys) next year.”
Replacing faulty/missing neurons with circuits is the right way to think about it. Many problems can be solved just bridging signals between existing neurons.
Progress will accelerate when we have devices in humans (hard to have nuanced conversations with monkeys) next year.

It is noteworthy that Elon Musk has a history of exaggerating promises and not delivering in project timelines, as he had previously promised last February that the “Neuralink” company might start implanting chips inside human brains by the end of 2021, and in 2019. He said his company hopes to begin human trials by the end of 2020.
And last April, Neuralink released a video of a monkey playing a video game using its own brain chip.
