The Prime Minister: President Sisi has great interest in preparing for the COP 27 Climate Change Conference

Today, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired the first meeting of the Higher Committee concerned with preparing for Egypt’s hosting of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP 27”, in which Dr. Mohamed Shaker participated in the actual attendance, and through video conference technology. , Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, and Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Development Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of the Environment, Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Pilot Mohamed Manar Enaba, Minister of Civil Aviation, and officials of ministries and relevant authorities.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly indicated the government’s keenness to speed up the holding of the first meeting of the Supreme Committee concerned with Egypt’s hosting of the “COP 27” climate conference, given the importance of this file for Egypt, expressing his hope that this conference would come out with an honorable image that reflects the status and value of Egypt. It shows the world its sincere efforts in fulfilling its obligations towards humanity towards protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development for future generations.

The Prime Minister pointed out that there is great interest from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in preparing for this conference at the highest level, because of its political dimensions other than the environmental dimensions, stressing that all capabilities that contribute to this global event will be harnessed in the best possible way.

During the meeting, the Minister of Environment (the decision of the Supreme Committee) presented the proposed vision for the tasks of the Supreme Committee, which included preparing for Egypt’s hosting of the Conference of Parties “COP 27”, adopting the road map and general plan for preparing for the conference, and defining the roles and responsibilities of ministries and relevant authorities with regard to organizational, administrative and logistical procedures and equipment Forming specialized executive committees to oversee the implementation of the necessary procedures and equipment in coordination with the committee, and approving reports to follow up on the implementation of the committee’s decisions.

The Minister presented the results of the coordination meetings that took place between the Ministry of Environment and the relevant ministries to determine the roles and responsibilities, the proposed institutional and organizational structure, and the six proposed axes of action, namely: a political axis, a technical and financial axis, an economic support axis, a logistical and financial axis, a media axis, and tourism axis, as well as About the initial work plan for these axes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister directed that the relevant ministries should study the concept proposed by the Minister of Environment, and provide the decision of the Supreme Committee with the observations and proposals, so that the general plan can be approved in its final form, in preparation for the start of implementation procedures, and preparations for the conference at the end of this month.
