Austria – (AA)

Gerald Rockenshap, the new director of health emergencies at the World Health Organization, confirmed that Europe will not be able to protect itself sustainably against the new “Omicron” variant of the Corona virus.

The new director said – in statements today, Wednesday – that the “Omicron” variant cannot be stopped by 100 percent and the level of its spread depends on the effectiveness of quarantine measures, and strict travel restrictions are already limiting the speed of its spread.

Rockenshop explained that more mutations and cases of the “Omicron” variant may be discovered in the coming period.

It is noteworthy that Rockenshop is a doctor in the Austrian state of Styria, and will take up his position at the European headquarters of the World Health Organization in Copenhagen on the first of next February, and he is currently director of the WHO office in Albania.

On the other hand, daily infections with the Corona virus have returned to rise in Austria, and according to the statistics of the Ministry of Health, 10,367 new infections were recorded, and 61 deaths within 24 hours.
