Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his anger at his team’s exit from the Champions League after losing 0-3 to Bayern Munich, yesterday, Wednesday, at the conclusion of the group stage matches.
Barcelona came out of the Champions League by failing to reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2000-2001 season.
Bayern topped Group E with a full score of 18 points from six victories, and Benfica ranked second with eight points, in front of third Barcelona (seven points), and Dynamo Kiev, the fourth and last (one point).
By occupying the third place, “Barcelona” will move to compete in the European League.
“We always want to control the ball, but today (yesterday) was the opposite,” Xavi said in comments reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”.
He continued, “We are Barcelona and what happened today should be a turning point to change many things.”
He added: “We must face the situation with dignity, today a new era begins, we have to face reality and there is nothing else, we have to work hard.”
He stressed, “I do not like the word failure, because we tried, I love the Catalan team, I will try to bring it back again.”
And he added: “Bayern was better. We have to return Barcelona to the position it deserves, not the European League. We will work so that it does not happen again.”
Xavi continued: “I was hoping that we would compete in another way, and this is a blow for me as a coach, but Bayern was better, and we have to improve things.”
