The daughter of the Sultan of Brunei, the Southeast Asian country, tied the knot in a lavish week-long event that culminated on Sunday with a lavish ceremony at the Royal Palace.

Princess Fadela Lubol, 36, married the daughter of billionaire Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, 75, one of the world’s richest men, with Awang Abdullah Nabil Mahmoud al-Hashemi.

The bride, Princess Fadila, a Kingston University graduate, is the ninth of the Sultan’s twelve children, captain of the Brunei national netball team and a healthcare activist, but she remains largely out of the spotlight.

The same was true of her mysterious husband, who was described by a local newspaper as a “handsome alien”, but who remained a private person.

Their engagement was announced in a statement issued by the palace on December 31. The wedding celebrations began on January 16, when the Sultan officially gave his blessing to the couple. The religious part of the marriage took place last Thursday.

The ceremony, which was held at the Omar Ali Saif al-Din Mosque, witnessed the groom proclaim his vows in front of a group of men present only, including the Sultan, who played the role of his daughter’s representative at the wedding ceremony. The celebration was marked by 17 salute rounds.

The festivities continued on Sunday with the ‘Persanding Binjanten Deraja Stadiums’ in the gold-plated hall of the Royal Palace.

At the ceremony, the bride had the support of her parents and her brother Prince Mateen (30 years old), a military and social media star with more than two million followers on “Instagram”.

They also have a sister, Azem Nima Bolkiah (37 years old), and her brother, Prince Azim, who died in 2020 at the age of 38.

The pictures circulated showed the bride and groom in a wonderful form, as they wore white and silver clothes decorated with diamonds. The bride covered her hair with a piece of soft white lace, topped by a shiny crown.

The Sultan of Brunei, who has an estimated net worth of $20 billion, is also the country’s prime minister, giving him complete control over how the country is earned. He ascended the throne in 1967 after the abdication of his father, Sultan Sir Haji Omar Ali Saif al-Din, and married his first wife, Queen Salha, in the same year.

The couple, who have 6 children, are still married, although the sultan has married and divorced two other women in recent years.

Princess Fadila is the product of his marriage to his second wife, Maryam Abdel Aziz, a former flight attendant of Brunei, Japanese and Scottish origin.
