Ahmed Hossam Mido, the star of Zamalek and the former national team, confirmed that Hani Abu Rida, the former president of the Football Association, offered him to take over the position of coach of the Olympic team before Shawky Gharib took the job, but he refused.
Mido confirmed, in statements to the “On Time Sport” channel, that his salary at the time, if he agreed, would have reached 180,000 pounds per month, but he refused, because the financial compensation is weak.
He added that Hani Abu Rida told him that if he wanted to continue his media work, he would be approved to appear in the media one day a week in exchange for 50% of his media salary, but he refused, explaining: “I do (my salary) in the media much more than that.”
Regarding Zamalek, the 38-year-old star confirmed that Kamal Darwish, the former president of Zamalek, and Ayman Younes contacted him to train the first team, a few months after his retirement, stressing that he achieved the Egypt Cup title at the expense of Smouha with Zamalek.
He added that he faced great difficulties at all levels, while working as a coach for Zamalek, but he succeeded in entering the treasury of Zamalek 6 million pounds.
