Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been detained in Australia ahead of a court hearing that will determine whether he can stay in the country without a coronavirus vaccination.

The Serb, ranked number one in the world, faces possible deportation after canceling his visa for the second time, which the government says poses a threat to the public.

Djokovic’s lawyers, 34, are appealing against what they describe as an “irrational” ruling. The hearing is scheduled for Sunday.

Djokovic is still scheduled to play in the Australian Open, which begins on Monday in Melbourne.
