On Thursday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held talks with his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid, in the first phone call at this level since 2008.

And the Turkish Anadolu Agency quoted sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry as saying on Thursday evening that a phone call took place between Cavusoglu and his Israeli counterpart, without mentioning its content.

For his part, the Israeli Walla website confirmed that Lapid spoke by phone today with his Turkish counterpart Cavusoglu, noting that “this is the first public phone call between Israeli and Turkish foreign ministers in 13 years.”

And earlier on Thursday, Turkish diplomatic sources reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had invited his Israeli counterpart, Isaac Herzog, to visit Turkey, and that the second had expressed his desire to accept the invitation.

The same sources added that meetings between the two countries are continuing to arrange the visit, pointing out that the date has not yet been set.
