Visceral fat is considered one of the most toxic fats because it releases harmful chemicals into the bloodstream.
Fortunately, some nutrients have shown promising results in preventing harmful fat storage in the abdominal area. A seasoning, which is a staple in many kitchens, can help shed visceral fat within weeks.
Unlike subcutaneous fat, visceral fat is located in the abdominal cavity and covers vital organs, where it cannot be stimulated. It is common for harmful chemicals to be released into the bloodstream that can increase the risk of a heart attack. Researchers often stress the importance of a good diet to rid the body of visceral fat. A spice may start to have an effect within weeks, according to the study.
A group of research indicates that cardamom may help rid the body of fat that accumulates in the abdominal area of the body. Nutrients magazine summarizes some of the spice’s healthy properties.
The researchers explain: “Cardamom is a well-known green and black spice used in culinary practices and traditional medicine. The dry pods of cardamom contain volatile oils, phenolic acids and sterols.”
The study was conducted on rodents fed a high-carb, high-fat diet for eight weeks, who went on to develop visceral obesity and impaired glucose tolerance.
The researchers set out to compare the cardiovascular, liver, and metabolic responses of the rodents to green and black cardamom.
They noted that adding black cardamom to the diet improved markers of metabolic syndrome more effectively than green cardamom.
The researchers noted that mice fed black cardamom “showed marked reversals of diet-induced changes, with reduced visceral adiposity, total body fat mass, systolic blood pressure, plasma triglycerides, and heart and liver structure and function.”
Conversely, the rodents receiving green cardamom experienced “an increase in visceral adiposity and total body fat mass, and increased damage to the heart and liver, without consistent improvement in metabolic syndrome markers.”
These results indicate that black cardamom is more effective in reversing the signs of metabolic syndrome than green cardamom.
Healing Food explains that cardamom is an effective digestive tonic and diuretic, which boosts the metabolism and helps the body burn fat more effectively.
The diuretic properties of the spice also help make it effective in helping the body get rid of water retention.
It was noted that effective management of conditions such as indigestion and water retention can aid in weight loss.
Some health authorities claim that the health benefits of cardamom can be gained by soaking the pods in water overnight and then drinking the water two to three times a day.
