Burkina Faso defeated Cape Verde 1-0 in the match that brought them together today, Thursday, in the second round of Group A of the African Nations Cup.
The only goal in the match was scored by Burkina Faso star Hassan Pande when he brilliantly turned the ball with his chest to embrace the Cape Verde net after a long pass from one of his teammates in the 39th minute of the match.
This victory is the first for Burkina Faso in the continental championship, after its defeat in the opening match against hosts Cameroon, 2-1.
In the second match in Group A, which was held earlier today, Cameroon defeated Ethiopia 4-1 to raise its tally to 6 points and qualify early to the final price round.
The standings of the first group teams after the second round:
1- Cameroon with 6 points (qualified for the semi-finals)
2- Burkina Faso with 3 points
3- Cape Verde with 3 points
4- Ethiopia without points.
Cameroon will host the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations football between January 9 and February 6, with the participation of 24 teams, and qualify for the next round (the Round of 16), the leaders and runners-up of each of the six groups, in addition to the best 4 third-placed teams.
