A student killed a teacher with a machete on Thursday at a secondary school in the Czech capital Prague and was then caught trying to escape, police and government officials said.
“The perpetrator attacked a teacher with a machete before noon (10.00 GMT). Unfortunately, the attack resulted in the death of the teacher,” the police said in a tweet.
The perpetrator fled, leaving the cleaver at the crime scene. The police deployed hundreds of its members in search of him, while a helicopter belonging to it participated in the operation.
“The teacher was attacked by his student,” Education Minister Peter Gazdek said, adding that it was possible that the boy had quarreled with the teacher after he “failed” at school on Wednesday.
The police announced that they “managed to find and arrest the suspect.”
