Communication and internet outage in Ukraine due to a powerful cyber attack

Ukrainian government officials and representatives of the state-owned Ukrainian telecommunications company (Ukrytelecom) said that it experienced an internet outage after it was subjected to a strong cyber attack, according to a Sky News Arabia report.

This is the latest in a series of cyber attacks and hacks that have hit the Internet in Ukraine since the start of Russian military operations in late February.

“Today, the enemy launched a powerful cyber attack on the technical infrastructure of Ukrytelecom, the attack was repelled, and the company now has the ability to start restoring its services to subscribers,” said Yuri Shekul, head of the Special Communications and Information Protection Authority.

“The attack has been repelled and we are gradually resuming services,” said company spokesman Mikhail Churanov.

NetBlocks, which has been tracking internet outages, wrote on Twitter since Monday that it had detected a “communication breakdown” with “a widespread nationwide outage.”
