FilGoal | News | Ashraf Sobhi: We do not want to lose the national team and start from scratch.. We will not be broken and we will look to the future

Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed his sadness at the Egyptian team’s farewell to the dream of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but stressed that they look to the future.

Egypt was eliminated from the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after losing to Senegal on penalties.

Ashraf Sobhi said on the Sada Al-Balad channel: “Everyone feels sad, but we are not broken, and this is my word to them.”

“The team is still young and the technical staff is preparing them for the African Championship next year,” he added.

The Minister of Sports stressed, “We will not stoop and start from scratch again, of course, we feel sad, but we will not break and always with stability, of course, our hopes were to qualify.”

“We were destined to face a difficult team like Senegal, and before that classification put us in a position to play the second leg away from our land,” Ashraf Sobhi said.

“I will not blame the circumstances only, but the conditions were very difficult in dealing with the fans, and there were extensive contacts from the Egyptian ambassador in Senegal to the Ministry of the Interior to secure the team,” he added.

The Minister of Sports concluded his statements, “We do not want to lose that team, we must look to the future. They did what they had to do strongly. Penalty kicks are always not the property of anyone.”
