Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the second time in a row, after losing to North Macedonia by a goal without a response in the deadly time of the match.
“It’s all over in one match, it’s a ridiculous system,” Bonucci told the English newspaper, The Mirror.
He added, “There are teams that qualified after losing four or five matches, but we lost only one match at home in the 92nd minute. This is crazy.”
“I do not say that the reason for the defeat is the system, but it is one of the reasons,” the Juventus defender concluded.
The European champion was unable to qualify for the World Cup for the fourth time in its history.
In a separate context, Portugal won the World Cup qualification ticket at the expense of its Macedonian counterpart, after defeating it with a score of two goals without a response.
This will be Portugal’s eighth appearance in the World Cup and the sixth in a row.
While the most prominent achievement of the Euro 2016 champions remains bronze in the 1966 edition.
