FIFA President Gianni Infantino has run for a new term as FIFA president.

Infantino announced this at the end of the International Federation Congress, which was held in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The FIFA Congress was held on the sidelines of the 2022 World Cup draw, which will be held on Friday.

Infantino was elected in February 2016 for a term of 3 years after the corruption incidents that were revealed in both FIFA and the European Union “UEFA”.

Then the International Football Association re-elected its Swiss president by acclamation for a second term until 2023.

Since taking over the role of the most prominent entity in football, Infantino has taken several reform decisions for the game, and also decided to agree to increase the number of World Cup teams to 48 teams starting from the 2026 World Cup.

Relying on the video assistant referee technology was also one of the decisions made by the Swiss man.

Infantino was born in the Swiss town of Brig in 1970 and is of Italian descent.

He does not have any footballing background either as a player or as a coach, but he used to work as the general secretary of the International Center for Sports Studies.

He joined the European Football Association (UEFA) in 2000, until he reached the position of General Secretary of the European Football Association.

In addition to his work as General Secretary of the European Union, Infantino was famous for presenting the Champions League draw ceremonies over the last years before taking the presidency.
