Martin Lasarte is no longer coach of the Chile national team after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Chile failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after finishing the qualifiers in seventh place.
The top four teams from the South American continent qualify for the World Cup, while the fifth-placed team plays a final playoff.
Lasarte has led the Chile national team since February 2021, and his contract with the team continues until the end of this year.
And Argentine Cesar Merlo, journalist for Tyc Sports, revealed that Lasarte is no longer technical director of Chile.
Merlo explained that the official announcement of Lasarte’s departure will be revealed in the next few days.
The Argentine journalist indicated that no penalty clause will be paid by both sides because the contract stipulates that the contract ends automatically in the event of failure to qualify for the World Cup.
Merlo added that it is likely not to sign any coach for the Chilean national team until the end of the year due to the upcoming elections in the Chilean Football Association.
Lasarte led the Chile national team in 22 matches, winning 7 and losing 9, while drawing on six occasions.
