Mexico and America qualify for the Qatar World Cup

The Mexican and American football teams joined the ranks of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after the first victory over his El Salvador counterpart 2-0 and the second defeat against its Costa Rica hosts 2-0 only on Wednesday evening, in the last fourteenth round of the final round matches in the Concacaf Confederation qualifiers ( North, Central America and the Caribbean) qualifying for the World Cup.

The same round also saw Jamaica beat Honduras 2-1 and Panama beat Canada 1-0.

The Mexican team raised its score to 28 points in second place in the qualifiers table, with a goal difference only, behind its Canadian counterpart, who officially qualified for the World Cup before the matches of this round, and the balance of the US team froze at 25 points in third place, with a goal difference only against its Costa Rican counterpart, who needed a broad victory. In this match to qualify at the expense of the US national team.

With this, the US team accompanied its Canadian and Mexican counterparts to the World Cup, while the Costa Rican team is in the international play-off against New Zealand, the winner of the Oceania Confederation qualifiers.

The competition to qualify for the finals and the global supplement was limited to the teams of the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica before this round, while the teams of Panama, Jamaica, El Salvador and Honduras were eliminated from the competition before this round.

The Mexican team crowned its successful qualifying campaign by defeating its El Salvador counterpart with two clean goals, scored by Carlos Antona and Raul Jimenez in the 17th and 43rd minutes, from a penalty kick.

The Mexican team needed only a point in the match to guarantee direct qualification to the World Cup, regardless of the outcome of the match between the Costa Rican and American teams, but Antona gave the team a lot of reassurance after scoring the goal in the 17th minute from a good follow-up to the ball after a header from Nestor Araujo.

Antona got a penalty kick for the team in the 42nd minute and Jimenez hit it in the next minute with success to eliminate the visitors’ hopes of a draw and confirm Mexicos qualification for the World Cup.

And the US team grabbed the third direct qualification to the World Cup, despite losing to its host Costa Rica, with two goals scored by Juan Pablo Vargas and Anthony Contreras in the 51st and 59th minutes.

The start of the match witnessed a strong performance from the US team, but Keylor Navas, goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain and the Costa Rica team, saved two dangerous chances in the first minutes.

The two teams failed to score during the first half, to end in a goalless draw, and the ambition of the Costa Rican team to qualify directly is very difficult in light of the large goal difference that the US team excelled with before this round.

In the second half, Vargas broke the silence by scoring the Costa Rica goal in the 51st minute, then Contreras scored the second goal in the 59th minute. next June.

The Mexican and American teams booked the 28th and 29th places in the Qatar World Cup, before the finals draw will be held tomorrow, Friday, in Doha.

The US team is playing in the finals for the eleventh time, knowing that the best result of the team in its previous participation was in the first edition in 1930, when it ranked third in the tournament.

The Mexican national team is participating in the finals for the eighth consecutive edition, as it has not missed the finals since the 1994 edition in the United States, and this participation will be its seventeenth in the finals.

The best result of the Mexican team in its previous participation in the World Cup was during the 1970 and 1986 editions hosted by his country, in which it reached the quarter-finals.

In the same round of qualifiers, the Panamanian team defeated its Canadian counterpart with a clean goal, scored by Gabriel Torres in the 49th minute, after the first half ended in a goalless draw.

The Panamanian team raised its score to 21 points in fifth place, and the Canadian team suffered only its second defeat in this round of qualifiers, which is its second in the last three matches it played in the qualifiers, but this defeat did not affect its position at the top of the qualifiers table.

The Jamaican team defeated its Honduran counterpart 2-1 to raise its score to 11 points and advance to sixth place. Honduras’ balance froze at four points in the last eighth place, as the team failed to achieve any victory in this round of qualifiers.
